The main openBIM^® standards are classified into:

• Data Standards;
• Workflow Standards;
• openBIM services.

The following belong to the Data Standards category:

• IFC (Industry Foundation Classes), is a standardized, digital description of the built environment, including buildings and civil infrastructures.
• MDV (Model View Definition), defines which of these data descriptions need to be exchanged during a communication process and represents a property filter for an IFC file.

Process standards, on the other hand, include:

• BCF (BIM Collaboration Format), created to streamline communications and allow the exchange of feedback between professionals.
• The IDM (Information Delivery Manual), allows you to standardize the exchange processes between professionals.
• The IDS (Information Delivery Specification), is the document that defines the Information Requirement (Exchange Requirement) within an exchange of information based on the use of a BIM model.
• The OpenCDE APIs, is the project that aims to improve interoperability within the AEC software ecosystem through tightly connected and domain-specific APIs.

The buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD) belongs to the bSI services, an online service created to map technical data in a standard manner.
