usBIM has been tested as a centralized bridge inspection software in a study for the management of the bridges of the A3 motorway in southern Italy.

The infrastructure includes 368 bridges, tunnels, and minor constructions, out of which 207 structures should be monitored according to LG20 guidelines.

The study proposes a new bridge surveillance management methodology based on the use of bridge inspection software and a multidisciplinary approach that takes into account advanced/integrated representations of BIM and GIS, multi-risk analysis, and a qualified assessment of bridge safety conditions.

The study was conducted through two different activities:

• Scientific support and applied research
• Surveillance and inspection activities

The entire process, managed by the CUGRI (Inter-University Research Center for the Prediction and Prevention of Major Hazards), is subject to internal AUDIT activities shared by a Scientific Committee composed of professors from the associated Universities with specific skills in the field and by the managers of the managing company.

All the results of the surveillance activities are managed by a BMS platform, allowing the management company to consult the conservation status of the entire network in real time.
